Drugstore beetle (Stegobium paniceum)
The drugstore beetle (Stegobium paniceum) is an insect. Specifically, it belongs to the order of beetles (Coleoptera) and the family Ptinidae.
Size 2–4 mm, color brown to reddish-brown.
It commonly occurs in households, especially in pantries, food storage areas, and pharmacies. It attacks various dried foods—flour, spices, pasta, crackers, herbs, teas, but also dried flowers or tobacco.
The larvae look like small worms—hence the name “beetle worm,” although it is actually a developmental stage of a beetle.
